University of Primorska (UP) consists of six faculties and one research centre. UP employs 431 researchers and 27 technicians within 8 research groups that focus their studies on: Management, Educational Sciences, Mathematics,
Computer Sciences, Biodiversity, Mediterranean Agriculture, Sustainable Use of Wood, Health and Disease Prevention, Tourism, Philosophy, Intercultural Studies, History and Heritage, and Linguistics. At the end of the year 2020 there were
6.089 students included in various programmes at all three levels of education, among them 942 foreign students were enrolled on various educational programmes of UP. There are currently 204 PhD students registered at University. In 2020,
14 students were awarded a PhD.
UP has extensive experience in project management, financial, legal and dministrative project management, and coordination within various international programs. Over the past three years UP has been involved in 70 international projects. As a leading partner, UP coordinated 6 projects with a total value of € 16,5 million, most notably the strategic project for establishment of Centre of Excellence for Renewable materials and healthy environments research and innovation – InnoRenew, cofinanced by the Horizon 2020 programme in total value of € 15 milion. In 2020 UP was involved in 50 international research and development projects, including 7 projects in Horizon 2020. Currently, UP is taking part in 11 national programmes, 44 basic, 2 postdoctoral, 4 applied research programmes and 15 target research programmes. In 2020, UP was involved in 49 scientific-research bilateral projects and was training 15 young researchers, all the abovementioned activities were financed by National Research Agency (grants were awarded through the national calls). UP also participated at other 10 national research projects.
The UP FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES’S (UP FHS) scientific research activities focus on the fields of nursing, nutrition, dietetics, movement, and basic natural and medical sciences.
The faculty strives to design and analyse the effectiveness of various interdisciplinary approaches for the holistic treatment of individuals, subpopulations and populations, and to prepare strategic plans for the implementation of effective interventions in the areas of nutrition, healthy lifestyle, managing chronic diseases, improving quality of life, etc. By expanding its set of important findings, the faculty contributes new knowledge on non-communicable diseases (NCD) development, risk factors and strategic prevention plans across different age groups, thereby facilitating the synergistic transfer of pre-clinical knowledge about improving health status of the population in the region and beyond.
The researchers are part of the UP FVZ 2413-001 research group, which currently consists of 57 researchers and professional/technical staff.
The faculty participates in several research programs and projects co-financed by the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS), in various domestic research projects co-financed by national funds (programs of various ministries), and in international
research projects co-financed by cross-border cooperation programs (The European Social Fund, the European Regional Development Fund and other financial instruments).
In 2020 UP FHS was involved in 4 national research programs, 1 infrastructure program, 1 basic project, 1 applied project, 1 target research program, 1 bilateral project, 5 national projects, 8 international projects, 3 projects with companies, 3
projects with non-economy institutions and was training 2 young researchers.
